There's no telling how this well-meaning attempt to allay children's fears of animals by talking them through will work in all situations. Certainly it's fine to know that animals use their teeth in many nice ways--as tools, for showing affection to each other, but by the time all the various possibilities of being bitten by animals have been discussed and dismissed--""a dog that is playing roughly may tear your sweater. . . the black snake may bite the person who tries to pick her up. . . the fox who has rabies may not run away""--even our anxiety level was beginning to rise. All right for adults who have faith in the rational approach, but not much psychological stuffing to sink your teeth into.
