KIRKUS REVIEW

Yet another book addressed to the pregnant woman. This combines some of the helpful information found in Gates and Meckel's Newborn Beauty (p. 1458) with sequenced exercises similar to those in Simkin's The Complete Pregnancy Exercise Book (also p. 1458), and mixes in some distinctive ideas of its own: ""kitchen cosmetology"" recipes, baby sweater directions, and instructions for highlighting hair with food coloring. Unfortunately, the less important content nearly crowds out the essentials. Some objections: the section on breast feeding is quite skimpy; the ubiquitous headlines are useful for skimming only (FASHIONS FOR YOUR HEAD; PLEASE HIM TONIGHT; FLYING?); the perky tone is irritating. Also, the month-by-month arrangement is less satisfying than Gates & Meckel's more conventional Skin/Hair/Diet/Fashion organization. Enthusiastic, and imaginative in some ways, but limited.
