But sometimes you'll want to make room for three--as Bear realizes at last, after newcomer Chipmunk, whom he'd resented for homing in on his friendship with Duck, wins him over by weeding Bear's garden for him. Bear's change of heart is less convincing than his jealousy, but we can't deny that it's easy to feel for him in his ungracious discomfort at the housewarming, to which he alone has come without a gift for Chipmunk. And Maestro's soft pencil and crayon drawings which convey the usual warmth of such friendships, give Bear a spiffy sort of vulnerability.
