Frogs are wet because they need to breathe through the pores in their skin on land (supplementing their lungs) as well as in the water; they are amphibians. Using a visual and tactile-- therefore highly concrete--characteristic to distinguish frogs is canny, but wet skin is not the integument of the book, which is actually an introduction to frogs per se; laying eggs, hatching into tadpoles, singing in the mating season, leaping many times their body length, staring without blinking, snaring victims with their long forked tongues. In sum, doing all the things that intrigue small children, who will enjoy this before they are ready for the fuller explanations of Zim, the broader coverage of Hogner.
