A solid collection of short accounts, nonfiction and some fiction for the sea-fevered reader. The editors have selected well, but the title, sectionings, and their preface strike for a romanticism rejected by the writers themselves. The short introductions to each selection are not quite short enough, and seem dull in comparison to the articles chosen. However, these are not serious faults. Readers can easily ignore them and proceed with the real thing, which includes Cousteau, Ellsberg, Rachel Carson, Poe, even Jonah, plus some very interesting, less familiar items.
