If bastardy had not existed in the non-genetic sense, Harry would have been the prototype. Harry is a somewhat nastier Pal Joey, and from birth beautiful, magnetic and charming (although without description, example or other corroboration). He swindles, seduces and exploits everybody and everything, without motivation and much less appreciation. His attitude toward sex is that of a dyspeptic toward a soggy pastry, although he devotes a lot of time to it without much satisfaction for anyone-even the reader. With some poetic justice, Harry's disintegration begins with a pimple on his nose, which is followed by a series of minor but significant ailments which herald his loss of beauty and charm. His suicide is grotesque.... Feiffer's drawing board following may be better able to visualize Feiffer's intent in print, and a special audience may find it funny. Others will find it unpleasant.
