SNOW COVERED WAGONS

A book-length epic poem, concerned with the ill-fated Donner Party, which left Springfield, Illinois in 1846, and came to a tragic end in the Sierras. The story has been told many times, but we doubt whether it has been better told than here. The verse does not detract from the realistic effect, from the drama, from the historical importance of the account. Sell to those who can take the verse form in their stride -- and this should include the wide public of Benet's John Brown's Body -- and the slowly but steadily growing appreciative market of Laughter Out of the Ground by Robin Lampson.
