Personal reminiscences of an Englishman who has lived in the South Seas for 60 years, as told to Julian Dana. Seized with the wanderlust, in his early teens, he made his way via New Zealand to the South Seas, where as trader he has seen the islands gradually open up as a tourists' playground. Stories of slave ships, missionaries, native kings, wanderers are assembled here from his crowded memories of his early days, leading up to his championship of the islanders. Excellent reading though a bit prejudiced as to the benefits civilization conferred on his island paradise. Good adventure.
