KIRKUS REVIEW

Parlez vous----? basic Berlitz? advanced middle French so that you can recite Villon? In any case none of it will do you any good when you are in Paris (or parts south) if you are an Amerlocke, Amerloque, Amerlos, or a ""Ricain which is any one of several colloquial ways of saying American. These contemporary locutions, some 700 or more, assembled first in groups, double words (boni-boni- shady nightclub; cancan- you guess), insults, endearments, foods, animals, etc. and then given a demonstration in conversations with the above slanguage italicized (both in French to English and then English to French). It will help you get along in present day French. The vulgate is fun and the illustrations, 155 linecuts by Michael Train, will help you to pige la lecon (dig the lesson).
