BEFORE DAWN

This is pleasant but unimportant, and it seems already dated, dealing with the decaying Austrian aristocracy, near Vienna, and the reluctance to accept the first steps towards National Socialism. A story of a crisis that comes with the marriage of Carlo, sober-going gentleman farmer, and unworldly Marie Antonie, who fights against his way of life and thought. There's a nostalgic aura to the description of traditional lares and penates, and the conventional arguments of the well-born are posed against the new ways of thought.
