KIRKUS REVIEW

At first glance this seems to belong in the picture-book class but youngsters would appreciate it more if it were read to them at the age of about seven. Miss Bedier lives at the Motherhouse in Maryknoll, New York, but she has had years of experience in the Far East. This is her third book about Anna at the Mission in Lo-Ting. The little girl becomes a friend of eight-year old Ah Lan who is married to an absentee boy husband but has to live with her cruel mother-in-law. The pig is only important for a brief moment when he saves Ah Lan from further whipping.
