MARIANNE AND THE LORDS OF THE EAST

And so the adventures of the lovely Marianne, who runs little errands in international espionage for Napoleon, bubble on, agitated by whiffs of sighs and shrieks of horror--this time from Constantinople to Odessa. Affairs of the heart take precedence over purloined letters. Marianne bears a son by a happily deceased villain and continues to pursue her true love, the American privateer, Jason. At the close Marianne and Jason leave Odessa, ""beginning the long journey across the vast extent of Russia,"" a trek which, alas, awaits us when Marianne with her ""great green eyes"" next appears in this interminable series.
