A regional incident that happened about fifty years ago in Kentucky, involving a boy and a circus, and nicely done in a smooth text and appealing drawings by Lee J. Ames. Orphaned Gyp lives with Catfish Williams, a mean and conniving owner of a small itinermat show. To improve matters Catfish rents Queenie, an elephant, from a large three ringer, Jeffrey's Boy-elephant friendship takes Gyp and Queenie on a trip to escape the trickery of Catfish who wants to sell the elephant to a Chicago zoo- and after misfortune, right to Jeffrey in time to save matters and join Jeffrey's Jewels, for good.
