KIRKUS REVIEW

A few words from a small-time informer suddenly reopen the unsolved murder of a girl four years before, as well as the unrecovered three quarters of a million pounds, intermittently stolen--two cases which are somehow tied together. Quiet Detective Inspector Rudd teases half memories, suppositious connections, and minutiae as small as the word ""transit"" until it all coheres. British traditional to a t, and every one of them is crossed with commendable care and intelligence.
