BOOKS, YOUNG PEOPLE AND READING GUIDANCE

Common sense underlies this text written for parents and teachers by a librarian and a children's teacher. Stressing the vital role books can play in the development of the child into adulthood, this text concentrates largely on books suitable for pre-adolescents and adolescents. Insistent that there are particular reading needs which demand specific books for teen-agers, the authors enumerate these needs and suggest appropriate titles which fulfill them. Sample questionaires to help the teacher select the proper reading material for her classes and a bibliography consisting, not only of books with literary merit, but books geared to specific problems of the reader, add to make this a helpful, if somewhat pedantic text, on a somewhat naive level.
