Young pirates-in-training work on their sword skills, friendships, and the defeat of a dastardly plot in this third series entry.

Ten days have passed since Pirate Academy’s Oceans Bound weekend concluded, and close friends Jasmine, Jacoby, and Neo are off on separate adventures. Neo set sail with legendary pirate captain December Wilde to investigate the coordinates his deceased mother left hidden inside a bracelet. Jas, Jacoby, and the other Barracudas contend with the defection of Captain Molina, the sword skills instructor who left abruptly to train recruits for the school’s nemesis, the League of True Pirates. At the Pirate Academy in Okinawa Province, Neo’s quest uncovers a falcata, or special falcon-shaped sword, that possesses hidden powers—if he can learn to use them. Meanwhile, Jacoby and his diverse Barracuda classmates search Molina’s quarters. With Jas’ help, they try to find answers to puzzles including what’s in the mysterious indigo  cardboard file hidden under Molina’s carpet, where Jas’ parents are, and what the League is planning with Operation Kraken. The Barracudas use rich vocabulary, engage in friendly banter, and enjoy supportive friendships between their (non-gory) sword fights and infiltration of the League’s compound for reconnaissance and rescue missions. A recap brings new readers up to speed and the story arcs come together satisfyingly by the end while leaving the door open for further adventures. Skaffa’s occasional illustrations enhance the storytelling.

Ahoy, mateys! Come aboard for further exciting adventures!
