From Sweden where it won the Sherlock, the native grand prix in 1974, this infrared procedural. (Scandinavia seems to produce as many procedurals as we do capers.) Anyway, for no sane reason, three policemen lose their wives who are brutally battered to death, one a day in a week of horror, until the empty apartment of a commonplace little man reveals a still more hideous leftover. Inexorable instant reading.
