BIG BUSINESS, EFFICIENCY AND FASCISM

The title and the sub title, ""An Appraisal of the Efficiency of Large Corporations and of their Threat to Democracy"" sounded a challenge, which the text of the book somehow falls to fulfill. However, the author presents enough data to support his contention that our giant corporations are not as efficient and profitable as the public believes, and that the operating coats are frequently higher than in moderate sized businesses. His studies cover a wide range, through an inquiry in behalf of the Federal Trade Commission and the Temporary National Economic Committee. He pleads for a revival of competition as a step towards increased employment and towards stalling the trend towards fascism inherent in Big Business. One feels that the author is somewhat inclined to interpret data to prove his promise.
