KIRKUS REVIEW

A sugary introduction to the Queen City of the Plains, featuring bright color photos and an easy text. Prospective tourists will be the main audience for this travelogue and recitation of festivals, museums, monuments, and points of interest. Both Denver's industries and its multiethnic population are described, but not the racial tensions or the depressed economy; the city's colorful history is sketchily represented by a handful of names and dates. Index; timeline (1850-1988); three pages of places to visit, with addresses and telephone numbers. A book about the state, either from the ""New Enchantment of America"" or ""America the Beautiful"" series, will be more useful to report-writers.
