THE EMPEROR CHARLES V: The Growth and Destiny of a Man and a World-Empire

An overwhelmingly documented biography of an overwhelming subject, Charles V who carried the Hapsburg Dynasty to its apogee, who ruled over more European territories than any other European monarch, who occupied the central political and religious position of his time. It is a book for scholars, not for the average reader, for it is too comprehensive in scope and too meticulous in method. There is very little of the personal, but it is a scholarly, lucid and exhaustive piece of research.
