KIRKUS REVIEW

So closely is the name of Sandburg linked to his memorable Lincoln, that the identity of the man himself seems often shadowy. Here is a book that should correct that situation, and give the man the stature he deserves. We trace the growth of a many ailed human being, non of immigrant parents, living in the middle west, wandering in and out of schools, drifting from job to job, from newspaper to newspaper, yet always with a goal ahead, always absorbing, making his own, all experience that came to him, until he reached the position he occupies today. Critical analysis of his work made an integral part of his life pattern.
