The first volume of Jaspers' major study appeared in 1962 (p. 94) exploring the ""present era's 'encyclopedic knowledge' and 'irresponsibility' against the 'living company' of the great philosophers themselves."" The ""living company"" here includes the Original Thinkers Anaximander, Heraclitus, Parmenides, Plotinus, Anselm, Nicholas of Cusa, Spinoza, Lao-Tzu, and Nagarjuna.
