FROM SCIENCE TO GOD

The Professor of Philosophy at Carleton College addresses himself ""to those who have been critical of their religious beliefs and quite skeptical of much that religions teach today, but have not yet persuaded themselves (or been persuaded) that religion is nothing but an ancient myth full of superstitions and primitive ideas"". One would not expect a professor of philosophy to give us a book that we can skim through riding to and from work in the subway. But the reader does not need to be a philosopher, psychologist, theologian or scientist to follow Professor Schmidt's argument. Despite the profundity of his thought, the author has succeeded in presenting his arguments for a belief in God, and for the validity of religious faith in a readable and convincing fashion. While orthodox church people may find Professor Schmidt's approach to religion disturbing to many of their cherished tenets of belief, they will share his concern over the present state of unbelief regarding religious matters, and will welcome a book designed to convince unbelievers that religion is founded upon truth for which there is a sound scientific philosophical basis.
