Theologians of the English speaking world have been awaiting the publication of a translation of the work of Fr. Karl Rahner, S.J., ""the most influential theologian in German-speaking Catholicism"". This is the first volume in a series to be published for this anxious audience. Non-Europeans, however, will quickly taste the continental flavor of Fr. Rahner's works. Dealing as he does with problems arising in the modern world of Europe, he is heavily concerned with the philosophy of existentialism. The translator of this English version is careful to point out in his introduction that these readings are ""often extremely difficult"" and that his personal recommendation and acknowledgment of a debt to Fr. Rahner ""must not, however, necessarily be taken as agreement with everything Fr. Rahner says"". Among the subjects covered in this first volume by Fr. Rahner are the: development of dogma, Christology, Mariology, nature and grace. Here is an important book which will be sought by serious students of the theology no matter what their personal faith.
