ON WAR by Karl von Clausewits

ON WAR

By

Pub Date: Sept. 13th, 1943
Publisher: Random House

This is one of those world classics, in its field, that everyone has heard about, but few have ever seen, let alone read. And yet von Clausewitz had, probably, the most far-feching influence on military tactics of anyone who ever lived. He was a Prussian general, who served in the Rhine campaigns and in the wars against Napoleon. He fought at waterloo -- after interim service in Russia -- and later was director of the German War School, where he finished his masterpiece, On War, but did not live to see it published. This is a new translation from the German, with an introduction by O.J. Matthij Jolles, and a foreword by Richard McKeon of the University of Chicago. It is issued as a Modern Library Giant, but is not a reprint.
