STRONG CITADEL

The strong citadel of Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, where Mrs. Janice Lane resides and entertains a close circle of aristocrats, gets its shake-up when her son, Hal, returning from the wars, brings back a bride, Katia. Katia, with her Trotskyite forebear, her embarassing exuberance, her naivete and her gaiety, strikes a very foreign note- and although quickly endearing herself to Hal's sister, even his former girl, Ellen, she is still ""not at ins with Momma"". Further loss of face ensues when Cicily, Hal's sister, also falls in love with an outsider and although making an acceptable marriage, ends by running away with her lover. Katia, often insecure in that she may not be the right wife for Hal, gives him his chance to go back to Ellen, but it is she that Hal loves and in time Mrs. Lane is reconciled. Feminine fiction, with more animation than most, by an experienced editor and practitioner in the field.
