. . . is a delicious way to build a liking for verses. And we defy any reader, adult or juvenile, to get very far in this collection with a straight face. All the nuances of humor are here, from giddy to rollicking, and Mirth's chief priests are Laura E. Richards, Lewis Carroll, Edward Leer, Ogden Nash and Phyllis McGinley, and others. Commemorated are that lamentable ""man from Calcutta Who spoke with a terrible stutter"" and that best-beloved ""elephone who tried to use the telephunk"". Walter Lorraine's free, airy, calligraphic doodles in black and white communicate most effectively the lure of light poetry. This is the wisest nonsense in many a day for children of all ages.
