This fable, charmingly retold, illustrates the value of brotherhood in a literal sense. Mashi, Sashi, and Tashi- brothers in the Persian rug business- decide to compete for the prize offered by the Prince in exchange for a magnificent rug. Feelings of greed cause each brother to regard his role as the most vital until father settles the quarrel by a simple experiment. Try as he would, no brother alone could break a certain bundle of sticks. Only their combined strengths accomplished the task.
