An elaboration on the story of Dick Whittington and his cat told with the charm and sensitiveness characteristic of the author's other books. A magical atmosphere pervades the story, yet there are no radical deviations from the essential plot of the old tale. (After all, that was based on historical fact.) Katherine Gibson has a faculty for recapturing period and atmosphere, and this book carries out that quality. It should be as popular with children as Cinders.
