KIRKUS REVIEW

In a future New York where most people are either telepaths or telepathic ""broadcasters,"" the surplus population is sterilized and shipped elsewhere, and the remnant lives in communes based on homogeneous personalities and interests--which makes life either more rewarding or easier for the technocrats to manipulate, depending on your outlook. The narrator, a telepath who locates missing persons for the police, gets mixed up with a teenage gang of saboteurs bent on destroying the benevolent despotism of the ""techs."" Uneven but challenging; Katherine MacLean is an sf author who invents ideas instead of hardware.
