APPOLONIA'S VALENTINE

Another Pennsylvania Dutch setting (see The Egg Tree- 1950) brightens a grand Valentine's Day story about a brother and sister ""Apple"" and Dan who go to a one-room country school. In order to buy a box of paints, to make her valentine, Apple first sells her eggs in the Amish market place. Then she paints the wonderful designs that are part of her heritage, is praised for her work at school and sends her card to a French boy in Brittany. Timed for the season- and with the author's delightful bursts of storytelling pictures- this should magnify that important occasion.
