Another good boy and dog story, with a Trinidad background. Remember the favorite Erick Berry story built on the making of a song -- One String Fiddle? This has somewhat the feel of that little book, but is intended for somewhat older children. And the making of a calypso, a characteristic native form of music-building, is a recurrent theme in the wistful story of the small boy who wanted the pup that knew his name when it was sung to him. Without being an atom preachy, the story has good character building qualities. The Kurt Wiese pictures are delightful.
