The official biography of Tenzing is a very personal record in which a great many controversies are brought into the open and clarified. It is in no sense an apologia but a naive and direct statement of ""...exactly what happened""- of the discrepancies arising between the English with their attitudes fixed by tradition and the Sherpas, Tenzing among them, who were put at a loss. Tenzing explains the points at which his own actions were open to misinterpretation, but above all, he wants to settle the bitterness in an undertaking that was bigger than its minor issues, and in which the Sherpas played an integral part.
