A helpful guide for the single parent, which takes the reader through the eddies and backwaters of despair and confusion. Covered are topics such as love, loneliness, guilt, child care, sex and when and how to get help. Anecdotal input from some 100 informants fleshes out the author's psychological insights. The writer explains step-by-step how to deal with children and the ex, how to explore personal resources and use them. The book stresses positive thinking, encourages parents to dwell on their virtues and lowers the boom on endless, sapping guilt. The ""if only I hadn't. . ."" kind of thinking is forbidden. There is much practical advice here for single parents, which reassures them that they can do it because others in even more dire straits have come through whole.
