KIRKUS REVIEW

Complete"" from the male angle-but what will the women say, for camping is not confined to men. But with this reservation voiced, we give this top rating. Much of the material is basic to all camping:- plan ahead, find out where you are going, what you will find there, what you need in equipment, what are the local regulations, and so on. Then equipment is exhaustively studied:- tents, shelters, bedding, clothing, stoves, lighting, tools, grub list, and the ""War Bag"". Various types of camping are considered:- bicycle, pack and saddle trips, air travel, auto camping, snowshoes and skis, and the special requirements of each. He goes on to pitching camp- the essential know-how, the housekeeping, the safety precautions, campfires, axmanship, camp cookery. Wilderness survival-living off the land- and how to meet emergencies are included. 200 illustrations. A good reference book for scout masters, Y.M.C.A., etc. but primarily intended for the use of adults intending to take vacation camping trips.
