ALLIANCE FOR PROGRESS

By

Pub Date: April 27th, 1964
Publisher: Coward-McCann

This is an extraordinarily frank and down-to-earth account of the slow pace of progress in the 20 Latin American republics that make up the Alliance for Progress. The publicity that comes via news media concerning the uneven course of the Alliance often includes strikes, anti-American demonstrations, and the feverish political activities endemic to South and Central America. These are not glossed over, nor is U.S. involvement over- or under-rated. The author is a specialist in Latin American affairs and a former editor of the Pan-American Union's magazine Americas. In presenting the hard facts of poverty, ignorance and inequity through the stories behind the tough struggles that the Alliance has always somehow managed to survive, the strategic importance of free and prosperous neighboring countries becomes plainly apparent.
