KIRKUS REVIEW

A flat, mechanical narrative about featureless Charlie, who has never been allowed to have a pet, but who makes pets of three roaches when he finds them under the kitchen sink. Then his mother discovers the jar in his room and orders the ""disgusting"" creatures out of the house. Charlie moons a bit, but not for long--for not only does his teacher let him keep the roaches at school for a science project but his mother presents him next morning with a pair of caged rabbits. Perfunctory.
