The author of Running For Health and Beauty found that her portable typewriter was too heavy to lift. So she began a weight-lifting program (which consisted of pumping tomato juice cans instead of iron) designed to make her self-sufficient. Here it is, complete with detailed exercises for the ""traps,"" ""lats,"" triceps, and abdominal muscles (among others) which are designed to help you do the same thing. Included are specialized weight-lifting techniques to help women become more proficient in sports like field hockey, diving, racquet sports, soccer, and football. ""Many women tend to regard the buttocks as something to be jammed into a girdle,"" we are told. Actually, ""the main function of the buttocks muscles is to move your thighs toward the back."" We always knew there had to be a reason for them.
