An introduction by Ralph Sockman introduces this memoir by Mrs. Phillips, begun when at 82 she made a trip around the world. It goes back in time however to her own childhood in Kansas where her father was a frontier preacher; to her own education at Ohio Wesleyan; to her two marriages and the loss of both husbands. And it includes some of her ideas about the academic life and purpose, the woman's role in a changing culture, teaching, etc.. It is however more emotional than thoughtful in tone; Mrs. Phillips is easily moved- to tears or prayers; as such it has a minor inspirational value although it is of marginal general interest.
