SALTWATER SAM

Sam might be ineligible for the baseball team but he was ably qualified to go into training for his future- which he envisioned in foreign lands as a correspondent. What Sam learns in his efforts to track down a story is that news can be made anywhere, even on the remote peninsula of Evergreen Point, Maine. Sam's beginnings as a fledgling are quite modest and without luck. His idea for manufacturing plastic lobster pots is given space in the Gazette but under someone else's by-line. Assurance from his friend and big brother Hank and curiosity concerning an abandoned lighthouse yields story number two,- the first shipwreck in modern years. Continued observation helps Sam spot a bobbing submarine which he reports to the authorities. All in all a sleepy summer results in a creative step forward for an aspiring twelve year old, and a satisfying story for all his friends.
