INSIDE THE PRESSURE COOKER: A Season in the Life of the New York Jets

A refreshing change from ebullient championship season fare, this is a compassionate portrait of the Jets' long, losing 1973 campaign. The author, daughter of the team's president and a sports columnist for the Daily News, is privileged to an inside view of the action and fashions from it a book which is less a survey of the Jets' dismal 4-10 record than a tribute to their coaching staff and retiring coach Weeb Ewbank. Victorious in the Super Bowl a few years back, the Jets fell victim not only to pre-season ""lassitude"" and the ""malaise"" caused by prolonged contract negotiations, but also to key injuries and the heartache of several close defeats. A convincingly human treatment of a disappointing Sunday routine.
