THE PHANTOM OF FONTHILL PARK

Make it go away altogether. A silly g----- story about Susan Reeves, an impoverished but spirited little modiste; her visits to Fonthill Park owned by a forbidding Sir Charles Tempest, guardian of the foolishly fickle Isobel who runs off with the portraitist who had been murmuring what proves to be sweet nothings to Susan; the apparitions, be they real or otherwise, of a woman in black; a threatened youngster; etc., etc. Miss Vernon writes in awful English, sometimes wrong French, not to mention an unaccountable language of love.
