WILL YOU CROSS ME?

The lightly laughable contretemps that occurs when Sam and Joe, who live on opposite sides of the street, try to get together to play ball--with much echoing of the refrain, ""Will you cross me?"" First they have trouble getting crossed, then both get crossed--the opposite way--at the same time. When they do get together, they have a falling out about who'll pitch. And when that's settled (after more crossing back and forth), Joe's mother calls him into the house--leaving Sam on the corner hollering ""Hey, Somebody! Anybody"" ""WILL YOU CROSS ME?"" Jaunty enough--though there's nothing much to it.
