In a delightfully imaginative variation on the make-believe-friend theme, Aligay (an alligator) plays connect-the-dots with the stars to make Twinklegator, who comes down ""like a shooting star"" and joins him for a night's explorations. When Twinklegator grows weary, Aligay again connects stars, this time to make a hammock in the sky--to which Twinklegator returns to sleep. Stone's lovely, star-sparked paintings of the two friends observing the other animals of the field and jungle show a luminous night world, rich in detail. Readers are sure to be intrigued and amused by this unusual friendship.
