RIVAL PARTNERS: America & Britain in the Postwar World

A significant and desirable book on post-war Anglo-American economic relations, but it seems to us that Hutchinson has little to add to what George Soule says in America's Stake in Britain's Future. (See P.355). Both assert that world prosperity, and Britain's in particular, is dependent on full employment in America; that England must choose between an insulated economy, controls to insure equal division of the cake, or unrestricted trade as proposed at Bretton Woods which promises a share of an unprecedentedly large came. Britain's choice awaits ours -- will we abolish mean unemployment and insure full production? An intelligent, realistic view.
