A very good dog and boy story. Thirteen-year-old Hal Stockton wants to run away because he is allowed neither a dog nor a boat. Old Man Seward, builder of boats and man of the sea, suggests a tree house fitted out as a ship as a compensation. Hal in his tree house observes next door the beautiful, young boxer, Beau, penned up by two Pecksniffian adults and determines to own him. finally after a series of entertaining mishaps, aided by the old man and the gangling puppy. Hal does acquire both the dog and the boat. This is a charming story written with wit and intelligence. The dog is no super animal although he has tremendous charm and Hal is at times a very shrewd little boy. By the author of Ticktock and Jim.
