PHANTOM RIDER

A good boy, girl and horse story by a favorite author is set in New Jersey and combines the recurrence of a legendary mystery with the establishment of a profitable enterprise. Timothy Cottrell, who lives in the country and owns Whisk, a fine steeple-chaser, meets Kate Sim, whose deep love of horses has been overtly curbed by the death of her mother from a fall while riding. Their meeting coincides with the rumor that the ghost of a Revolutionary War lady who fled on horseback across the hills is riding again. Together Kate and Tim decide to open a small riding stable when their doings lead to friendship with the Norris family, who own another fine horse, but are pestered with a crooked caretaker. Tim and Kate discover his misdeeds; Kate reveals herself as the ""phantom rider"" of the Norris's horse; and the obstructions, both real and psychological, to the success of the riding school are removed.
