THREE STUFFED OWLS

Animals in a texidermist's shop in Belleville, home of young detective Swede and Neil of The Mystery of Burnt Hill (1952), turn out to be stuffed with diamonds- in a puzzle that starts with a bicycle theft and ends with international implications. Commissioned by a pal to find the bike, Swede and Neil find its disappearance coincides with the absence of Carl Nystrom, the taxidermist's helper. Tracking Carl, the boys find he's the American link for a European smuggling outfit. Pretty rarefied adventuring but Robertson's realism brings it down to the common level.
