LOST SOULS

Has the legend of a vanishing hitchhiker come to life, or is it just a fae up to no good? Three interconnected mysterymongers straddling the line between the mundane and the supernatural must band together to investigate.

Gabriel Walsh wants to get back in the good graces of his assistant, Olivia, whom he’s recently wounded by implying that they're not friends. With Olivia on a trip out of town and out of touch, Gabriel has a limited amount of time to figure out a plan to get on her good side. Perhaps finding the perfect case for the two of them to investigate would do the trick. Enter Patrick, a mischievous fae and one of the Cainsville elders. Patrick knows both Gabriel and Olivia and is ready to take advantage of Gabriel’s predicament. His own motives for helping Gabriel find a case to investigate alongside Olivia are presented in interspersed chapters from his point of view. And the perfect case arrives: the urban legend of a hitchhiking ghost seems to have come to life and is haunting unsuspecting Chicago citizens and forcing them into unspeakable acts. Though Gabriel is reluctant to take the case because of trickster Patrick’s involvement, he can’t turn it down because he knows how interested Olivia will be. And she is, though she’s also unsure if they should take the case. Olivia knows Patrick’s interested in Gabriel because Gabriel’s the son he longs to become closer to. The three headstrong characters find themselves investigating whether the tale of the mysterious ghost has come true or the apparition is just a fae playing tricks on mortals. Their struggles to navigate their interpersonal relationships would be a lot easier if they could just be honest with each other.

Part mystery, part supernatural thriller, part family drama, and all pretty obscure except to devoted fans of the Cainsville series (Betrayals, 2016, etc.).
