A board book with pull-tabs and flaps neatly outlines a child's unconventional but loving family. In the first spread, an African-American child is shown hugging a pink pig in front of a blue elephant: ""Max is our friend. We hug!"" The next spread is of a house's facade, with three openings to lift: ""This is where we live."" In other scenes, the three show off their favorite food, a quivering gelatin dessert, and blow bubbles in the back yard. Wilson-Max keeps the paper engineering simple; his cast is affable, but under-utilized by the format.
